L’KEG Gallery is an all-ages,multimedia creative space that branches itself out as a gallery and was one of the pioneers of what was to become the Echo Park gallery boom. First opening its doors in late October of 2006,at 1170 Glendale Blvd, under the bridge of Sunset Blvd. and between The Echoplex. In 2008,it relocated to 311 Glendale Blvd. to offset a success of exhibits and events. On February 2010,L’KEG Gallery closed its doors due to a neighboring electrical fire and since has remained closed.
L’KEG Gallery was an outlet for those in search of substance and bewilderment;encouraging and supporting the development, exchange, and presentation of creative ideas. It served as a liaison to the DIY community by showcasing emerging artists and musicians, and other misc. activities.
L’KEG supported independent entrepreneurs by distributing independent records, handmade crafts, zines, publications, and vintage clothing.
L’KEG was named after a line taken for the film “Velvet Goldmine”a film directed and co-written by Todd Haynes. L.K.E.G is an abreviation of “Lipstick Kissed Elbow Glove,”but easily pronounced as Le-Keg.
Leticia Llesmin,Cory Myrick, and Shannon Paley, founded LKEG Gallery in the hope of forming a new home for artists, free thinkers, etc. to create together and create a series of events that mean something or nothing at all, just a place they can rehearse, withdraw, and draw. Walt Gorecki later joined as a co-founder in January 2009,creating the best D.I.Y art showcases in the LA underground scene.
L’KEG Gallery will always exist in many fond memories and has transcended its spirit into its sister art space, The Black Triangle.
